Leaves and twigs are the part of the plant used, and the oil is extracted by steam distillation. Two kinds of cinnamon oil exist, one from the leaves and one from the bark. This one is made from the leaves and twigs. It is for an oil burner, not for eating, drinking or skin. Avoid the leaf oil during pregnancy. Bark oil is very strong and should only be used diluted, under expert supervision.
Cinnamon has a long story as a trade spice. The tree is native to the Indian subcontinent, and for centuries cinnamon moved between India, China and Egypt. Its source stayed a mystery in the West, and one old tale told of giant cinnamon birds gathering sticks for their nests.
