## About witchcraft Supplies

A first altar needs only a few things: a candle, a cloth, a small dish or chalice and something from nature, such as a crystal or a sprig of herbs. Witch starter kits bring these together with a short guide. A cast-iron cauldron is used for burning herbs or resin, and a besom, a traditional broom, is used to sweep a space before a ritual.

A Book of Shadows is a witch's own record of spells, rituals and notes. Ritual herbs and oils are for spell jars, candle dressing and altar work only, not for eating or for the skin.

## Questions

### What do I need to start practising witchcraft?

Very little: a candle, a notebook to use as your Book of Shadows, and something from nature for your altar. A witch starter kit puts these together with a short guide, so you can begin with one simple ritual.

### What is a Book of Shadows?

A Book of Shadows is a journal where a witch writes down spells, rituals, moon notes and correspondences. It can be a plain notebook or a decorated grimoire-style journal: what matters is that it's yours.
