## About tarot Cards

New to tarot? Start with a Rider-Waite style deck: it's the one most guides are written for, so the meanings in any book will match your cards. Readers who already have a working deck often want a second one with a different look, such as a gothic, botanical or pocket deck.

A tarot deck has 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits. Keep your cards in a bag or a wooden box, and lay them on a tarot cloth when you read.

## Questions

### What is the best tarot deck for a beginner?

A Rider-Waite style deck is the usual first choice, because most tarot books and websites describe its pictures. Pick one with a guidebook in the box, so you can look up each card as you learn.

### What is the difference between tarot cards and oracle cards?

A tarot deck always has 78 cards in a set structure: the Major Arcana and four suits. Oracle decks have any number of cards, and each deck follows its own theme. Many readers use both.
