## About this gift

Gothic readers and Poe fans are the people this piece was made for. This piece by Nemesis Now is a skull covered in engraved lines from Edgar Allan Poe's narrative poem The Raven. It sits well in a collection of macabre décor or Halloween pieces.

The figurine is made from solid cast resin, so it feels heavy in the hand. Intricate sculpting is finished with realistic hand-painted colours and detailing, and the engraved text is picked out in black so the words stand clear on the skull.

Skulls have long stood for mortality in gothic art, a tradition known as memento mori, Latin for 'remember you must die'. Here the skull meets one of the best-known poems in English, with its midnight visitor and its refrain of 'Nevermore'. For a book lover with a dark streak, it is a gift that reads as well as it looks.
