## About this gift

A row of black cats has claimed a witch's broom, and they are not letting go. This hand-painted figurine shows the cats as a witch's familiars, each wearing a witch hat. In witch lore, a familiar is an animal companion that shares a witch's craft.

The figurine is cast in resin and carefully painted by hand. One cat hides between the bristles of the broom. Another is trying to fall asleep on the handle. Every cat clings on with sharp claws, hats on, as if ready to take flight.

Black cats and broomsticks are classic symbols of the witch in folklore, and they come out in force at Samhain (the Gaelic festival at summer's end) and Halloween. For anyone who walks the witch's path with a cat at their heels, it is a playful nod to both.
