# Angel cards: what they are, what they mean and how to read them > Angel cards are a type of oracle card deck with angel art and short, positive messages, used for daily reflection and inspiration rather than for predicting the future. - Published by Holistic Tree: 2026-10-16; last reviewed 2026-10-16 - URL: https://holistictree.co.uk/guides/angel-cards ## Key points - Angel cards are oracle cards with angel art and short, positive messages, used for reflection, not prediction. - Tarot always has 78 cards in a fixed structure; angel and oracle decks have any number of cards. - Angel card meanings come from each deck's guidebook: read the word, the picture, the guidebook, then your response. - Beginners can start with a one-card daily draw, an open question and a journal. - Choose a deck by its art, guidebook, number of cards, size and tone. ## What are angel cards? Angel cards are picture cards with angel art and a short, positive message on each card. They are a kind of [oracle cards](/oracle-cards): a deck with its own theme and guidebook, used for reflection. Every deck page shows the number of cards and what comes in the box, so you can compare decks in seconds and pick yours today. **What are angel cards used for?** A daily moment of reflection, a journal prompt or a little inspiration. In angel card tradition, each card offers a gentle message from the angels. Many readers see it as a prompt to pause and ask a good question. A card does not tell the future or make anything happen. **Who are angel cards for?** Anyone. You need no belief, training or special gift, so angel cards for beginners are an easy first step into card reading. - [Angel Cards, 55-Card Deck](/products/angel-cards) (£16.99): 55 paper cards by Toni Carmine Salerno in a colour box, made for readers new to angel cards. - [Angel Answers Oracle Cards](/products/angel-answers-oracle-cards) (£20.49): 44 cards by Radleigh Valentine, illustrated by Marius Michael-George, with a 185-page guidebook in a sliding box. - [Angel Cards, 55-Card Deck](https://holistictree.co.uk/products/angel-cards): £16.99 - [Angel Answers Oracle Cards](https://holistictree.co.uk/products/angel-answers-oracle-cards): £20.49 ## How are angel cards different from tarot and oracle cards? Tarot follows a fixed structure. Oracle cards do not. Angel cards are a kind of oracle deck with an angel theme. | | Angel cards | Oracle cards | Tarot cards | |---|---|---|---| | **Number of cards** | Any number | Any number | Always 78 | | **Structure** | No fixed structure; own guidebook | No fixed structure; own theme and guidebook | 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits | | **Tone** | Short, positive messages | Set by each deck's theme | Wide range, light to challenging | | **Reversed cards** | Most decks do not use them | Depends on the deck | Many readers use them | | **Best for** | Gentle daily reflection | Themed reflection in any style | Detailed readings | The Major and Minor Arcana are tarot's two groups of cards. A reversed card is one that lands upside down. **What is angel tarot?** Angel tarot cards use the tarot structure with angel art. There is no single list of angel card meanings. Each deck's guidebook gives its own meaning for every card. Most cards carry one word or a short message on themes such as trust, new beginnings, rest, courage, gratitude and letting go. **How do you read an angel card meaning?** 1. **The word.** Read the word or message first. 2. **The picture.** Notice the colours, the figure and the setting. 3. **The guidebook.** Read the guidebook entry for the card. 4. **Your response.** Ask what the card brings up for you today. Tarot has its own set meanings: see our guide to [tarot card meanings](/guides/tarot-card-meanings). **What are angel numbers?** Angel numbers are repeating numbers, such as 111 on a clock or 444 on a receipt. In popular angel-number lore they are read as messages: 111 new beginnings, 222 balance, 333 encouragement, 444 support and 555 change. It is lore, not fact. Reading angel cards takes a few minutes and no experience. 1. **Find a quiet spot** with a clear table or a reading cloth. 2. **Hold the deck** and take a breath. 3. **Ask an open question**, such as "What should I focus on today?" Skip yes/no questions and questions about what will happen. 4. **Shuffle** until you feel ready to stop. 5. **Draw one card** for a daily draw, or three for a short spread. 6. **Read the guidebook** entry for each card. 7. **Write it down** in a journal: the date, your question, your cards. **Which spread should beginners use?** Start with a one-card daily draw. For three cards, try past, present, next step, or situation, advice, what to focus on. **What if a card falls out while I shuffle?** Many readers see this "jumper" card as worth reading too. Angel cards are printed on paper or card, so simple care keeps them in good shape. - Keep them dry and away from drinks. - Shuffle gently so the edges do not bend. - Store the deck in its box, a cloth bag or a wooden box. - Lay cards on a reading cloth to keep them clean. **How do people cleanse angel cards?** Cleansing is a tradition. Many readers "cleanse" a new or much-used deck to mark a fresh start, using one of these methods: 1. **Shuffle** the whole deck thoroughly. 2. **Knock** on the deck a few times. 3. **Moonlight:** leave it on a windowsill overnight. 4. **A crystal:** rest clear quartz or selenite on top; both are traditionally associated with cleansing in crystal lore. 5. **Smoke:** pass it through incense or sage smoke. **Safety:** use a heatproof dish, open a window, never leave burning incense unattended and keep cards clear of the flame. No. Tarot always has 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits. Angel cards are a kind of oracle deck, with any number of cards, no fixed structure and short, positive messages. Angel tarot decks combine the tarot structure with angel art. ### Can anyone use angel cards? Yes. You need no belief, training or special gift. The cards carry simple words, and each deck's guidebook explains them. Start with a one-card daily draw, read the guidebook entry and note your thoughts in a journal. ### Do angel cards predict the future? No. Angel cards are a tool for reflection, inspiration and entertainment, and a card cannot tell you what will happen. In angel card tradition each card offers a message; many readers see it as a prompt to think about what to focus on next. ### How many angel cards should I draw? One card is enough for a daily draw and is the easiest way to learn your deck. For more detail, draw three, such as past, present and next step. More cards simply give you more to think about. ### Can I buy angel cards as a gift? Yes. A boxed deck with a guidebook is an easy gift for a birthday, Christmas or a curious friend. You can send it straight to someone: enter their address at checkout. Every order has tracked UK delivery and 14-day returns.
