## About divination

Divination is the practice of seeking insight through a tool or a sign. A pendulum is a weighted crystal or metal point on a chain, used for dowsing: you ask a yes-or-no question and watch how it swings. Runes are letters of the old Germanic alphabets, carved on stones or wood and drawn from a bag. A crystal ball is used for scrying, which means gazing into a clear surface.

For a beginner, a crystal pendulum is the simplest start: pair it with a pendulum cloth or board marked yes, no and maybe. Rune sets come in a pouch, and each rune has a traditional name and meaning.

## Questions

### How do you use a pendulum for beginners?

Hold the chain between your thumb and finger and keep the pendulum still. Ask it to show you 'yes', then 'no', and note each swing. Then ask simple yes-or-no questions. A pendulum cloth with yes, no and maybe marked on it makes the answers easier to read.

### What do runes mean?

Each rune is a letter of the old Germanic alphabets with a traditional name and meaning. Fehu, for example, is traditionally linked with wealth and Algiz with protection. Most rune guides cover the 24 runes of the Elder Futhark.
