## About crystals

Start with the shape. Tumble stones are small and smooth, good for a pocket, a pouch or a crystal grid. Raw crystals show the stone as it was found. Points, towers and spheres stand on a shelf or an altar, and clusters and geodes make a centrepiece.

Natural stones vary, so each one is a little different in colour and pattern from the photo. Every page gives the size and weight, so you know what will arrive. Crystal lore links each stone with its own traditions: amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and intuition, rose quartz with love, and clear quartz is often called the master stone.

## Questions

### Which crystal should a beginner buy first?

Many people start with a small set of tumble stones: amethyst, rose quartz and clear quartz are the classic three. They're affordable, easy to carry, and each has a well-known place in crystal lore, so they make a simple first collection.

### Why does my crystal look different from the photo?

Natural stones are never identical. Colour, pattern and shape vary from piece to piece, even within one batch. The size and weight on the page tell you what to expect, and the photo shows a typical example.
